In northern Morocco, in the Rif Mountains, is the charming blue-painted town of Chefchaouen. There are several ways to get to this town. How to get to Chefchaouen:

From Tangier

Daily bus lines are run by CTM and other local companies between Tangier and Chefchaouen. The trip takes two to three hours, and the bus is quiet and cheap. The Tangier bus stop is where you can catch a bus. If you’re coming from Tangier, grand cabs (shared taxis) are faster and a little more expensive, but they can take you to Chefchaouen. It costs between 50 and 100 MAD per person and lasts about two hours. You can rent a car in Tangier and drive south on the N2 road to get to Chefchaouen if you’d rather. It takes about two hours and has beautiful views.

From Tetouan

To get from Tetouan to Chefchaouen, you can take the CTM or a different school bus. It takes around two hours to get there. You’ll save money and feel good about this choice to get to town. A cab is faster than the bus, so you could also take that. It costs between 40 and 70 MAD to drive from Tetouan to Chefchaouen. In total, it takes about two hours and fifteen minutes. If you are coming from Tetouan, the N13 road will take you straight to Chefchaouen in about 1.5 hours. You can see how beautiful the Rif Mountains are along the way.

From Fes

There are direct buses from Fes to Chefchaouen, and CTM is the most stable company. It takes about 4 to 5 hours to get there. The Fes bus stop has several departures every day. To get to Chefchaouen by car, take the N8 highway north from Fes and then the N13 road. For about four hours, you’ll be driving through beautiful mountain scenery.

from Casablanca or Rabat

A bus goes to Chefchaouen, but it takes a long time. It takes 5 to 7 hours by bus from Rabat and 7 to 8 hours from Casablanca. These buses are a cheap way to get around because they usually stop along the way. You could also take a train from Rabat or Casablanca to Fes or Tangier and then change to a bus or grand car to get to Chefchaouen. Driving from Rabat takes about 5 hours, and 6 hours from Casablanca. The A1 highway will take you to Tangier. You can take either the N2 or N13 road to get to Chefchaouen.

From Ceuta in Spain

You can take a grand cab from the Moroccan border to Chefchaouen if you’re coming from Spain through Ceuta. The trip takes about two hours. The N2 road is easy to drive on if you have a car.

You can reach Chefchaouen from many of northern Morocco’s big towns. The drive is beautiful, with views of the Rif Mountains and the countryside.
